WHAT’S THE BRAIN GOT TO DO WITH IT?

Leadership Development Series #4

In the last decade or so, neuroscience has revolutionized the field of behavioral health and has provided some much needed scientific data to help explain why we do what we do.

In this session, we take a dip into the world of brain science to learn about the body's stress response system, neural pathways and practical skills to calm.

You will learn about first- level reactivity to situations and how to recognize and work toward a second-level conscious response. While being reactive is sometimes important and necessary, it often is a result of old programming and brings up things like defensiveness, shutting down, or aggression that gets in the way of real communication.

What have we seen during this session…

People like the explanation of how the brain functions and feel empowered to make changes. This information challenges the old adage that “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” The understanding that we all deal with the same brain function allows us to also better understand what other people are going through.
